My Valentine

This Valentine's Day was a fun one for me. Melissa and I had a craft day and made a bunch of things for our sweethearts. I wanted Devin to know that I love him like crazy!

Since Devin has had so much fun playing words with friends...

Scratch off one heart per day until Valentine's Day!

A whole bunch of cute pick up lines etc.

Love my boy!

Devin had the most awesome Valentine present for me. I got home from work at 8:30pm and this was the door...

There was a sticky note trail around the house for me to follow. It was so funny. He told me to put down my keys and then a note told me to go back and put my coat away....I always forget to hang up my coat. It took me down into the basement and to the rooms down there.

In the bedroom was....a VITAMIX!!! I was sooo excited! And in the next room was a Vitamix dry blender from Mom and Dad. Wow. What an awesome day! But that wasn't all. The trail took me upstairs and there was a dozen red roses on the table.

And then the trail went to our bedroom and the note said "Devin's turn" because I had all his presents wrapped and sitting on my side of the bed. Lol. Devin wanted a turn at getting presents. It was pretty funny.

It was a great Valentines day. I love my little boy so much. He is so good to me.

We are thoroughly enjoying our Vitamix. We have made tons of smoothies so far and even tried a green smoothie once. I made a gluten free dessert on Sunday because I could make almond flour! It's so amazing!

LOVE!

So yummy!

Freezer Meals

Last Saturday I decided all of a sudden that I wanted to make freezer meals...not sure why that day, but I just wanted to. I went on Pinterest and found a couple websites and easy chicken recipes and went to the store and got everything and made a couple that day. I made a few more the next Tuesday and now I have 14 meals in my freezer. It feels so good. I just hope they are yummy!

Most of the recipes I got from www.overthebigmoon.com. Next time I'm thinking I'll try some more involved recipes with more veggies and stuff in them, but I wanted to start easy and see if I liked the idea of throwing dinner in the crockpot and eating when we get home. I'm pretty sure I'm going to LOVE it!

Christmas 2012

The week before Christmas Devin and I were able to be in the nativity. We ended up being Mary and Joseph. It was a very special nativity for me. It felt very reverent and the Spirit was definitely present. It helped me to remember the reason for the Christmas season. Mom and I didn't get everything done that we wanted to this year with Dad being in the hospital for November. That's when we usually do most of our baking and crafts and presents. But the nativity helped to put things into perspective and realize it doesn't matter about all the little things that do or do not get done.

This year was Bennett year for Christmas. We drove down to Taber on Dec. 23 after I finished work. We spent the evening with family as they had just finished up Bennett Christmas at Aunt Mary's house. Christmas Eve the boys played basketball and we went to the West's for dinner. There were lots of people there. We sang Christmas carols and the kids acted out the nativity. We went to Saunders and visited for awhile there as well. Then we went home and opened our PJs!

I wore earplugs when I went to bed and so in the morning, Nathan had to come and jump on us to get us up...I hadn't heard anyone knocking and Devin was just ignoring them. We all went up to Mom and Dad's room and waited for Aunt Mary and Lisa and Chintan to come over and then we opened our stockings. Then the boys did chores and we talked to Diane on Skype! It was awesome to hear her voice. I called my family and talked to them for a bit. Then we FINALLY got to open presents. It took forever with so many of us! We all get a present and then at the same time open it and then go around in a circle and tell what we got from whom.

We stayed in Taber until the 26th and then I had to go back to work. That weekend we had Christmas with McCue's in Red Deer. We had Christmas dinner on Friday after I was done work and then we slept over and had Christmas the next day with Dad, Mom and Amber. We had a great time. We spent the weekend with my family playing games and having fun. It was a great Christmas. We also had New Years with them. Amber and I ended up being pretty hyper and we were a team in every game we played. It was a fun bonding time for us. We watched Mr. Bean Christmas...oooh! Pahty hat!

Devin's Birthday

Devin turned 29 this year. We had a lovely birthday and a fun party for him. Dad had just gotten home from the hospital and so we were able to have a party for the first time in a long time. Auntie made Devin an awesome cookie bouquet for his birthday and Mom, Dad and I took it to the school during class. It really embarrassed Devin. Haha! Dad told Devin he was lucky that he didn't have more energy or else he would have come into the class and led them in singing Happy Birthday! That would have really embarrassed Devin!

What a handsome Mr. Bennett!

Birthday present for Devin's desk at school...he always needs some treats to keep him going.

A year of Devin's life from Aunt Mary. Always MY favorite present on Devin's bday!

Mangoes...Devin's favorite!

A book Devin's seminary teacher wrote.

EPIC!

Candy gram from our best friends!

Happy Birthday to my sweetheart. I love you sooo much! My world would not be the same without you. I am so blessed to be your wife for eternity!

Mexico

During the time Dad was in the hospital, I was booked to go to Mexico with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Fred and Aunt Sue. Uncle Fred and Aunt Sue have a condo in Mazatlan and they invited me to come along to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa. At first I said no and didn't really think about it and then Uncle Fred mentioned it again. I talked to Devin and he said as long as I didn't make it a habit of traveling without him, it would be fine. He couldn't come since it was in the middle of school. I left on my birthday and came back a week later. I thought about cancelling since Dad was in the hospital, but Dad wouldn't hear of it. So feeling supremely guilty, I left with Grandpa and Grandma. We got to Mazaltan around supper time.

Uncle Fred rented a car for the week since there were 5 of us. About 5 minutes after leaving the airport, we were pulled over by the police. I was hyperventilating in the backseat, afraid we were all going to rot in Mexican jail! The policeman kept saying "Ticket, ticket" but eventually asked where we were going and Uncle Fred said we were lost and he gave directions and let us go. We weren't entirely sure why we were pulled over to begin with, but figured it had to do with a left turn on the yellow?? Phew! No Mexican jail for us.

The condo is beautiful! They have a nice view of the ocean from their back deck and view of the city from the front deck. The pool was very nice also.

The pool where we did aquasize a few mornings.

We were busy the whole week. We went to the city and saw the market one day (and drank orchata from a street vendor...brave!!!). Uncle Fred drove us down the the Gold District a few times and we shopped. I bought some knock off Coach purses and silver earrings. I found some t-shirts for Dad and Devin.

The food in Mexico was amazing! I have never had such fantastic seafood! I had a shrimp fajita at Playa Bruha and it had, no word of a lie, at least 60 shrimp in it! And it was divine. I had limonada to be polite the first night, and found out I LOVE it! I thought I wouldn't since I don't like lemonade, but limes...delish! The salsa and corn tortillas were great. I would go back just to eat! Haha. It was really fun to read the menus and figure things out in Spanish. The signs and things at the supermarket were also pretty fun to try to translate.

Gotta love the ocean!

Grandpa found a fish washed up on shore...kind of hard to see it against his busy shirt.

On the top of the "mountain" Aunt Sue and I hiked one morning. We took the bus...wahoo! We walked up this hill and then walked to the market downtown. We took another bus back to the condo. It was quite the adventure.

On the way up the 'mountain'.

Bright lizard.

Beautiful sunsets. This was at dinner after eating the amazing shrimp fajita.

Boogie boarding! It was soo fun! I didn't end up actually catching a wave properly, but I really had fun being washed into shore. Just floating out in the ocean was awesome...except I kept imagining Dad being there and swimming by and touching my leg with his foot and scaring me that a fish/shark was gonna get me! We went seashell finding a few times also. I found some very cool shells. I also found some very cool shells at Seashell City...those ones weren't free though. Dang!

Another nice sunset.

One day we drove out to a small little town about 45 minutes out of Mazatlan called El Calite. It was the perfect little Mexican town. We walked around the Cathedral and through the town. We poked our noses into some shops and had lunch there. The menu was very thoroughly Mexican and most of it I had absolutely no idea what things would have been. Thank goodness for Auntie Sue!

The rooster that was walking through the restaurant by our feet. We wondered when filling out the customs form if we needed to claim we'd been in contact with farm animals??

At the town square.

El burro...Grandpa wanted me to ask how much they'd charge for me to get a picture on the donkey.

In the town square.

Our last sunset.

Our last meal in Mexico was at a restaurant by the beach. Uncle Fred had something very interesting in his dinner and made me eat one...I made him eat one first, and then...

I ate some octopus! It was rubbery, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I still can't believe I actually ate it. Haha.

We got back to Calgary very late and stayed at a hotel. I took Grandpa and Grandma to the airport and then drove home to Red Deer. I went straight to the clinic because I had a Mexican eye infection! Yuck! I also ended up with some weird skin thing on my fingers that still hasn't completely gone away. It was a localized red rash in 4 spots on my fingers. It didn't itch or hurt. It looked like a sunburn, but it wasn't. The doctor said it would just be one of those things we never know what it was. Lucky me!

It was a fantastic trip, but I was very happy to be home to my Devin. I missed that little boy so much! At least I was able to send Facebook messages to him every night. And I got updates on Dad everyday too, so that made things bearable. But no more leaving Devin behind. Not cool!

Thank you soooo much to Auntie Sue and Uncle Fred for thinking of me and inviting me to share in this wonderful trip. I will always remember it as a wonderful time.
