Wildlife adventure

So, one more Waterton post for the summer! We had so many encounters with bears this summer. I'm not going back next summer without some bear spray or something to make me feel a little bit safer. Sunday afternoon we went for a walk up Pass Creek. It was hot and we thought a walk up the creek would be nice. Well, Devin looked up at the road above us and noticed that there were people out of there cars looking at something on the other side of the creek...well, people only get out of the cars if they see bears or something else wild. So we look where they are looking, and just ahead of us, up the wall of the ravine, there is a bear eating berries. I was totally freaked out. Devin looked at the terrain and decided the bear couldn't very easily get down to the creek and so we kept walking. We enjoyed our little walk and then turned around to go back to the car.

Devin was watching for the bear and as we came around a bend in the creek, he saw the bear...much, much closer to the water! and with a much easier path down to us! Even Devin was a little freaked! He made me go first and told me to walk quickly, don't run and don't look at the bear! Man, that was one of the scariest few minutes of my life. The bear had stopped eating and was watching us. Eventually he was bored with us and went back to his berries. Yikes!

A few days later we were sitting at Waterton lake, reading books when all of a sudden we see a bear run across the road and jump into the lake! Not very far away from us! And there was a family with a few young kids, right by the bear! We sat and watched and soon a park ranger came and told everyone to get in their cars. The bear splashed a bit and then wandered into the trees away from the lake.

There is the bear...not very far away!

We were able to keep enjoying the sunshine as the bear didn't come back.
